About us

Our history

BandaSEA eV is a registered association based in Bonn, which was founded in 2010 under the name Marine Conservation South East Asia eV (MC-SEA). In October 2016 the name was changed to BandaSEA eV because the decision was made to work even more locally and to focus solely on the Banda Islands in the Indonesian Banda Sea. BandaSEA eV was founded by a team of marine biologists, diving instructors and project managers with many years of experience in Asia.

Our goal

Our goal is to restore the health of marine and coastal habitats or to protect them in the long term. We want to make a contribution to preserving biodiversity and endangered species in the Banda Sea. We also train the local population to use natural resources sustainably and to dispose of waste products in an environmentally friendly manner. This is to reduce the pressure we humans put on the coasts and the sea.

In order to achieve our goals, we collect donations. These are used to support our projects on the Banda Islands. Only projects that show the greatest promise for the protection of coral reefs, sharks, marine mammals and other sensitive marine life will be funded.

We guarantee that the donations flow directly into the selected projects. This is only possible because we are personally active on site: Two of our active members live and work on the Banda Islands. Our committed volunteers are represented in various industries, such as marine research, diving training, ecotourism and photography.

Furthermore, we have made it our business to sensitize tourists to the population and the nature of their host countries. Tourism is of great economic importance to Southeast Asia. What is important, however, is the way in which the countries are to be visited and explored. That is why we teach environmentally friendly diving and the basics of marine biology, among other things. We also offer local and international students the opportunity to actively participate in current research projects in marine ecology.

We look forward to suggestions and collaborations
